Vic: Abandoned baby's mother found
MELBOURNE, Aug 14 AAP - The mother of a five-month-old girl found abandoned outside
a bank yesterday has been found.
"The baby remains in our care for the time being," a Department of Human Services spokesman said.
"We are discussing future care options with the mother."
The baby was found by a cleaner outside a Box Hill bank about 6am (AEST) wrapped in
a blanket in a pram. There was also food, medicine and medical records in the pram.
Authorities said yesterday they had identified the girl from her medical records and
were confident of locating her parents.
But they have been less successful in finding the mother of "Baby Archie", who was
found in a paediatric wing toilet area of the Box Hill Hospital on July 28.
Nicknamed Archie after hospital visitor Archie Capaldo who found him, he has been placed
with foster parents.
Authorities have been unable to find the Asian baby's parents, despite 20 calls to
a specially set-up hotline.
