Vic: Bid to seize gangster's assets
MELBOURNE, April 6 AAP - A Victorian judge said today a lawyer should be appointed
to represent the estate of slain underworld figure Lewis Moran at a hearing seeking to
have his assets forfeited.
Supreme Court Justice Bill Gillard made the comment at a preliminary hearing, which
has been been adjourned and will resume this afternoon.
The application for forfeiture is being made by the Office of Public Prosecutions.
Justice Gillard said that solicitors who had previously acted for Moran should be contacted
to ascertain if they were acting for his estate.
He said he intended to adjourn the matter for hearing by another judge within the next few weeks.
A funeral is being held today for Moran, who was gunned down last Wednesday at a Melbourne
pokies pub.
Moran, the 23rd victim in Melbourne's gangland war, was patriarch to a crime family
which included his stepson Mark, shot dead in 2000, and son Jason, gunned down last June.
